Bangladesh Open heralds new PGTI season for 2011

January 24th 2011 Dhaka, Bangladesh: The Aircel Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) begins its 2011 season with the American Express Bangladesh Open which will be staged in association with the Bangladesh Golf Federation at the Kurmitola Golf Club, Dhaka, from 26-29 January, 2011. The Pro-Am is scheduled for 25th January. The tournament carries a total prize purse of Tk. 30 Lac.

The field at the American Express Bangladesh Open will feature some of the top professionals from India and Bangladesh. The Bangladeshi challenge will be led by Md Siddikur Rahman (defending champion & four-time winner on the Aircel PGTI) and Md Zamal Hossain Mollah (2009 champion). The impressive line-up of Indian golfers includes the likes of Gaganjeet Bhullar, Chiragh Kumar, Vijay Kumar, Sujjan Singh, Manav Jaini, Raju Ali Mollah, Shamim Khan, Gaurav Ghei, Vishal Singh, Harendra Gupta and Harmeet Kahlon, to name a few.

Brig Gen Salim Akhter (Retd) of Bangladesh Golf Federation said, "Its really nice to see that Bangladesh Open Professional Tournament has become an annual/ regular event in Bangladesh. In fact with the support of PGTI, we have been able to move forward to create a solid base for Siddikur, Zamal and others to excel their career as a professional golfer. And today, Siddikur needs no introduction in the golfing world. We are thankful to PGTI officials for holding this event regularly despite their busy schedule round the year."

The venue for the event is the magnificent Kurmitola Golf Club (KGC). Established in the mid-50s, the KGC is Bangladesh's premier golf course. Spread over an area of 125 acres, the course was designed by Frank Pennink and later remodeled by Dr. Sukitti Klangvhisai.
